Many feared dead as suspected militants attack Kenya

Kenya, on Tuesday, came under attack after some suspected militants stormed a luxury hotel complex in Nairobi, killing at least eleven people.
According to CNN, the attack began at about 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT) as heavy gunfire and an explosion sent people running for their lives Tuesday afternoon at the compound in the Westlands district of the Kenyan capital, which houses the DusitD2 hotel as well as offices.
“The coordinated attack began at a bank inside the complex, with an explosion targeting three vehicles in the parking lot, followed by a suicide blast in the hotel foyer, where guests sustained severe injuries,” Joseph Boinnet, Inspector General of Kenya’s national police service, told reporters.
The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab said it was behind the attack.
It was gathered that at least eleven people died at a restaurant in the complex in the incident, while about 30 were being treated of their injuries in hospital.
“I just started hearing gunshots and then started seeing people running away raising their hands up and some were entering the bank to hide for their lives. I also heard two explosions,’’ a woman, working in a neighbouring building told Reuters.
Nairobi Police Commander, Philip Ndolo also speaking on the incident described it as a terrier attack.
Ndolo said they had cordoned off the area around Riverside Drive, where the dusitD2 hotel is located, due to a suspected robbery.
“However, police are not ruling out a militant attack. We have to go for the highest incident that could take place.
“The highest incident we have is a terror attack,” he said.
